Privacy
People ask Genie about sensitive things: their pay, a leave request, how to handle a difficult colleague. This page explains who can read what you ask, and what your company's admins see.
In short
Your data and messages are encrypted and kept secure; admins cannot read your conversations. They see numbers only, never what you ask, unless you choose to send them a question.
Your conversations are private
- Only you read your conversations: your questions, Genie's answers, the files you attach and the files Genie makes for you.
- Admins cannot open them either. Workspace admins and owners, and the company's system administrators, cannot read your conversations in Genie. The one exception is a data export, and you are told about it.
- The same holds in other apps. What you ask Genie in Microsoft Teams, Zalo or another chat app is private too, and so is what an application connected to Genie asks for you. See Genie in Teams, Zalo and other apps.
- You decide who else reads a conversation. Colleagues see a conversation only when you share it with them, and you can stop sharing at any time. See Share a conversation.
- Your memory is yours. What Genie remembers about you is visible only to you, under Settings → My memory. See Memory.
Your conversations are encrypted
Genie stores your conversations encrypted: your questions, the answers, conversation titles, your memory and the content of the files you attach. Even someone with a copy of the database cannot read them. Admins cannot read your conversations either; they only see numbers such as usage and ratings, and the answers you choose to send them with a rating.
What admins see
Admins need to know whether Genie works well, so they see numbers:
- how many answers were rated Helpful or Not helpful, and the reasons picked;
- which knowledge bases and agents give weak answers, and how many questions are asked each day;
- how much each person used Genie and what it cost, as a total for the period.
They never see your questions, Genie's answers or who asked what in these reports. The usage totals do not say which agents or knowledge bases you used, or on which day.
Your Profile page sums this up under Privacy: click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Profile.

An admin reads one of your questions only if you send it:
- Rate an answer 👎 (Not helpful).
- Tick Send this question and answer to the workspace admins so they can improve Genie. The box is unticked unless you tick it.
- Click Send.
The admins then see that question, Genie's answer and your comment, without your name, so they can fix the documents behind it. To take it back, click 👎 again and untick the box: the question, the answer and your comment are deleted from their report. See Rate an answer.
Ratings given before you could make this choice keep only the rating and its reasons. Their questions, answers and comments have been erased for good.
Database lookups are recorded
When Genie looks up figures in a company database for you, the workspace audit log records who asked, which database, and the query Genie ran, but not the rows it read. This protects the company's data: admins can check who reached which data. See Ask your data.
When a system administrator exports your data
A system administrator can export your data, including your conversations, to answer a legal request or when you leave the company. It is never done silently:
- they must write down the reason;
- the export is recorded in the system audit log;
- you receive an email each time, with the reason.
If your company has not set up email in Genie, the administrator is told to inform you themselves.
You can download your own copy at any time: click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Profile → Your data → Download my data.
How long conversations are kept
Your workspace may delete conversations that have had no activity for a while; your Profile page shows the period. When you delete a conversation, it waits in Recently deleted for a while (the page shows how long), so you can restore it. See How long conversations are kept.
Good to know
- The website widget is different. A chat window on your company's website is for visitors, and the workspace's Admins and Owners can read its conversations to follow up. Do not type anything there that they should not see.
- Group chats are shared. In a Teams group chat or channel, everyone there sees Genie's replies.
- You still only see what you may see. Genie answers from the documents and data you have access to, never from a colleague's.
