Voice input
You can speak a question instead of typing it. Genie turns what you say into text and puts it in the message box, so you can check it before you send. This is handy on the warehouse floor, on the road between branches, or whenever typing is slow.
Dictate a question
- In the message box, click the microphone next to the send button (tooltip Dictate your question).
- The first time, your browser asks whether Genie may use the microphone. Allow it. While the browser waits, Genie shows Allow the microphone….
- Speak. A red dot, a timer and a bar show that recording is on. Near the end of the time limit, the timer also shows how many seconds are left.
- Click ✓ (Stop and transcribe) when you have finished.
- Genie shows Transcribing…, then puts the text in the message box where your cursor was.
- Read the text, correct any word Genie misheard, and send the question as usual.
For example, say "How many days of annual leave do I get after five years at Contoso?" and check that the numbers came through correctly before you send.
Cancel a recording
- Click × (Cancel recording), or press Esc.
Nothing is sent and nothing is added to the message box.
Choose the spoken language
Genie listens for your workspace's language by default. If you speak another language, tell Genie which one.
- Click the small arrow next to the microphone (Voice input options).
- Under Spoken language, choose one of:
- Workspace default (the language your workspace uses, for example Vietnamese)
- Vietnamese
- English
- Detect automatically
- Record your question as usual.
Your choice is kept in this browser for your next recordings.
Send without checking first
If you trust the transcript and want to save a click:
- Click the small arrow next to the microphone (Voice input options).
- Turn on Send right after transcription.
Genie now sends the question as soon as the text is ready. Turn the option off again to go back to checking the text first. The choice is kept in this browser.
Use the keyboard
- Press Tab until the microphone is highlighted, then press Enter to start recording.
- Press Esc to cancel a recording.
Good to know
- No microphone in the message box? Voice input is set up by your system administrator. If they have not added a speech model, or have turned voice input off, the microphone does not appear. Ask them if you need it.
- There is a time limit. A recording stops by itself at the limit your system administrator set (2 minutes unless they changed it) and Genie transcribes what you said up to then.
- The microphone is blocked. If you see Microphone access is blocked, allow the microphone for the Genie site in your browser settings, then try again.
- No microphone was found. Check that a microphone is connected and that no other app, such as a call, is using it.
- No speech was heard. Speak a little closer to the microphone and try again.
- Secure connection only. Browsers allow the microphone only on secure (HTTPS) pages. If you see Voice input needs a secure (HTTPS) connection., tell your admin.
- Use a recent browser. Voice input works in recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, on computers and phones.
- Names and abbreviations. If Genie often misspells a product name or an abbreviation your team uses, tell your system administrator: they can add it to the vocabulary list the speech model uses.
