Memory

Genie can remember things about you from one conversation to the next: your role, the branch you work for, how you like answers written. Then you do not have to repeat them every time. You stay in control: you can see everything Genie remembers, change it, delete it or turn memory off. This page explains how.

What Genie remembers

Memory works only when Long-term memory is turned on. Your system administrator decides this for the company. Then Genie can keep:

KindExampleWhen it is used
About you"I am a sales representative at the Da Nang branch."In every answer
Preference"Answer in short bullet points, in English."In every answer
Fact"Our team's monthly target is reviewed on the 5th."When the question is related
Ongoing task"I am preparing the Q4 price review."When the question is related
Long-term interestFrozen seafood marginsTo understand what you usually ask about

Genie also notices topics you ask about often (Watching) and documents your answers keep drawing on (Familiar sources).

Memory helps Genie understand your questions. It never gives you access to documents or data you could not see otherwise. What Genie remembers in one workspace is not used in another.

Ask Genie to remember something

In any conversation, say it: "Remember that I work at the Hanoi branch" or "Remember that I prefer answers in Vietnamese." Genie keeps it for later conversations.

Depending on how your company set Genie up, Genie may also pick up things about you by itself. Those guesses wait for your confirmation under Needs review and are not used until you say yes.

See what Genie remembers

  1. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Settings.
  2. Open My memory.
  3. The tabs sort your memories:
    • Active: what Genie uses now;
    • Needs review: guesses waiting for your Yes or No;
    • Watching: topics you keep asking about; click Save as interest to keep one, or Stop watching;
    • Familiar sources: documents your answers often cite; Open document or Stop tracking;
    • Replaced and Archived: older items Genie no longer uses.

Each memory shows where it came from: You asked, Distilled (picked up from your conversations) or Added by hand.

Click the ⓘ next to the title (When memories are used) for a summary of when each kind is used.

Add, change or delete a memory

  • Add: click Add, choose the Kind, write one sentence under Content (Write one sentence you want the assistant to remember), and save.
  • Change: click the pencil next to an active memory, edit it and save.
  • Delete: click the delete button on a memory and confirm Permanently delete this memory? A deleted memory is never used again.
  • Confirm a guess: under Needs review, click Yes to keep it or No to reject it. A rejected guess is not made again.

Other buttons at the top:

  • Export downloads a copy of your memories.
  • Tidy up merges memories that say nearly the same thing; the old wording stays under Replaced.
  • Clear all permanently deletes all your memories, watched topics and familiar sources. It cannot be undone.

See and forget memories in a conversation

When an answer used your memories, a line such as Used 2 memories appears in the answer's steps. Click it to see which ones. To stop using one, click Delete this memory next to it.

Turn memory off

  1. Open Settings → My memory.
  2. Turn off Use long-term memory for me.

Genie then neither reads nor adds memories for you. Your existing memories are kept, and are used again when you turn the switch back on. To remove them, delete them or use Clear all.

Good to know

  • "Long-term memory is off for this workspace." If My memory shows this, memory has not been turned on for your workspace. Your system administrator decides this, for the whole company or for your workspace alone; your switch has no effect until they turn it on.
  • Some agents do not use memory. An agent can turn memory off for itself. In conversations with that agent, your memories are neither read nor added to.
  • Memory is per workspace. What Genie remembers in Contoso is not used in Contoso Việt Nam.
  • Deleting conversations does not delete memories, and deleting a memory does not delete conversations.
  • Your data export includes your memory. Download my data in Profile contains your memories too.
