Genie in Teams, Zalo and other apps

Besides the Genie web app, your company can make Genie available where people already work: in Microsoft Teams, in a Zalo Official Account for customers, and as a chat bubble on a website or intranet page. This page explains how each one works from your side, and what is different from the web app. Your admin decides which of these your company uses.

Microsoft Teams

Start chatting

  1. In Teams, find the Genie app your company published. It usually carries the name of the assistant, for example "Contoso HR assistant". Your admin can tell you its name.
  2. In a direct chat with the app, just type your question. Every message goes to Genie.
  3. In a channel or a group chat, add the app with +, then mention it in your message, for example "@Contoso HR assistant What is the travel allowance for Da Nang?". Genie answers only messages that mention it, in the thread of the post.

When the app is added, it greets you and explains how to use it, in Vietnamese or English depending on your Teams language.

How answers look in Teams

  • Genie shows that it is typing, then writes the answer in one message.
  • A Sources card lists up to eight documents, with links that open them in Genie.
  • Genie remembers the conversation: you can ask follow-up questions. Each chat has one ongoing conversation; in a channel, each thread has its own.

Linking lets Genie answer you in Teams with your own Genie permissions, so you get the same documents as in the web app.

  1. In a direct chat with the app, send /link.
  2. Genie replies with a personal link. Open it within 10 minutes; it works once and only for you. Do not share it.
  3. Sign in to Genie if asked. The page Link your chat account shows your chat account and your Genie account.
  4. Check that you sent /link yourself just now, then click Link my account.
  5. The page shows Chat account linked. Go back to Teams and ask your question.

To remove the link, send /unlink in Teams.

Until you link your account, Genie answers you as a guest: only from documents open to everyone in the workspace. Your company may also require linking before Genie answers at all; Genie then tells you to send /link.

Commands

Send these in a direct chat, or after mentioning the app in a channel. Genie replies to commands in English.

CommandWhat it does
/helpLists the commands
/clearClears the conversation memory; your next message starts a new conversation
/stopStops the answer Genie is writing
/search followed by wordsShows matching passages from the knowledge bases, without an AI answer
/infoShows what the assistant can use: its knowledge bases, tools and web search
/link, /unlinkLinks or unlinks your Genie account (direct chat only)

What is different in Teams

  • Text only. Genie in Teams does not read files or images you send. Ask about files in the web app.
  • No figures from Databases or Power BI, and no calling another agent with @: use the web app for these.
  • Separate history. Teams conversations do not appear in your conversation history in the web app.
  • Private. Your Teams conversation with Genie is private: no one can read it in Genie, admins included. People in a group chat or channel still see what is posted there.
  • Links expire. Links to files and images in Teams answers stop working after a while; ask again to get a fresh link.
  • Not too fast. If you send many messages in a row, Genie may reply that your message is queued, or ask you to slow down.

Zalo

Your company can connect Genie to its Zalo Official Account (OA), usually to answer customers' questions, for example about products, prices and delivery.

  1. Follow the company's Official Account in Zalo, or open a chat with it.
  2. Type your question. Genie answers in the chat, followed by a short list of sources.

Things to know:

  • Genie on Zalo answers only from information the company has made public, never from internal documents.
  • It reads text only: it cannot see images, open files or listen to voice messages, and it says so politely.
  • There are no commands and no account linking. Each Zalo user has one ongoing conversation.
  • The conversation is private: no one can read it in Genie, admins included.

Website widget

Your company can put Genie on a web page, such as the intranet home page or a customer help page, as a chat bubble.

  1. Click the chat bubble, usually in a corner of the page. A chat panel opens with a welcome message and, often, suggested questions (You can ask me).
  2. Type your question and send.
  3. To start over, click New chat.

Things to know:

  • You do not need a Genie account. The conversation stays in your browser, so it survives a page refresh.
  • The widget answers from the knowledge bases the company chose for it. You see the list of sources, but you cannot open the original files.
  • Web search and file uploads are available only if the company turned them on for that widget.
  • Answers cannot be rated in the widget, and it does not query Databases or Power BI.
  • The workspace's Admins and Owners can read widget conversations, for example to follow up on a question. Do not type anything into the widget that they should not see.

Good to know

  • Permissions still apply. In every channel, Genie only answers from what that channel is allowed to use, and in Teams from what your linked account may read.
  • Who can read your conversations. Conversations in Teams, Zalo and other chat apps, and through the API, cannot be read by anyone in Genie, admins included. Website widget conversations are the exception: the workspace's Admins and Owners can read them. See Privacy.
  • The web app does the most. For data questions, files, the sandbox, agents and sharing, use the Genie web app.
  • Which channels exist depends on your company. Your workspace admin sets them up.
