Files and artifacts

You can give Genie a file to work with, such as a price list in Excel, a CSV export or a supplier's PDF, and ask questions about it. Genie can also make files for you: a Word summary, an Excel table, a chart. This page shows how to attach files, how to get the files Genie creates, and where to find them all later on the Artifacts page.

Attach a file to your question

  1. In the message box, click + (Add photos, files and tools).
  2. Click Add files and choose one or more files. You can also drag files onto the message box, or paste them.
  3. Each file appears as a card in the message box, showing Uploading with a percentage, then Parsing, then Ready.
  4. Type your question and send. You do not have to wait for Ready: Genie waits for the file before answering.

For example, attach the September order export and ask: "Which products sold more than 500 cartons in Ho Chi Minh City?"

To add pictures, such as a photo of a damaged delivery or a screenshot, use Add photos in the same menu (JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP, under 10 MB each). This item appears only when the agent you use can read images.

What you can attach

  • Up to 5 files per message.
  • Each file up to the size limit your company set (300 MB unless it was changed).
  • Common office and text files: PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CSV, TXT, Markdown, HTML, JSON and others, plus images and audio files. Some agents accept fewer types; Genie tells you when a file type is not supported.

Ask about a CSV, Excel or PDF file

  • PDF and Word: ask as you would about any document: "Summarize the payment terms in this contract."
  • Excel and CSV: ask for totals, comparisons, top lists or a cleaned-up version. For exact calculations on many rows, Genie may run code in the sandbox. See Code and sandbox.
  • Scanned documents and images: Genie can read the text in them.

To look at a file you attached, click its card in your sent message. It opens on the right.

Get files that Genie creates

Ask for a file when you need one: "Make an Excel file with this table", "Write this summary as a Word document", "Create a chart of late deliveries per week as an image".

When Genie has made a file:

  • the answer shows it as a file card with its name (Click to preview); images appear directly in the answer;
  • a folder button with a number appears under the answer (View files generated in this reply) and at the top right of the chat.

Click a file card to preview the file, then Download it. The folder button opens the Files tab of the sandbox panel, where you can switch between This turn and All files of the conversation.

Creating files needs a sandbox. If your workspace has none, Genie can still answer, but it cannot hand you a file.

Find your files on the Artifacts page

The Artifacts page collects the files Genie created for you, across all your conversations.

  1. Click Artifacts in the sidebar.
  2. Filter by type: All, Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, Images, Web pages or Data. Or type in Search filenames.
  3. Files are grouped by date (Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days…). Each row shows the File, its Source conversation, its Size and when it was Created.
  4. On a file:
    • click the row to Preview it;
    • click Download to save it;
    • click the conversation name (Open conversation) to go back to where it was made;
    • click Delete to remove it.

When Genie updated the same file several times in a conversation, the page shows the latest version with a label such as 3 versions.

Good to know

  • Attached files stay in the conversation. They are not added to a knowledge base and colleagues cannot search them. Genie keeps an attached file for a limited time (a day unless your company changed it); to ask about it again later, attach it again. Documents the whole team needs belong in a knowledge base: ask your admin.
  • Deleting a file is permanent. Delete removes the file and, on the Artifacts page, all its versions in that conversation. It cannot be undone. Copies saved to a knowledge base are not affected.
  • Only the owner of the conversation can delete its files. People who use a shared agent can download, not delete.
  • Files follow permissions. If your access to a shared knowledge base or agent ends, files and images in old answers that came from it stop opening.
  • No Artifacts item in the sidebar? Your workspace has no sandbox, so Genie does not create files there.
