Getting started

Genie is your company's assistant. You ask a question in your own words, and Genie answers from the documents, data and tools your company has connected, showing where each answer comes from. This page shows how to sign in, find your way around and set Genie up the way you like it.

Sign in

Open the Genie address your company gave you. The sign-in page offers the ways your company has set up; you may see one or several of them.

With your Microsoft account (the usual choice when your company uses Microsoft 365):

  1. Click Sign in with Microsoft. Your company may have given this button its own name.
  2. Sign in with your work account on the Microsoft page, if you are not signed in already.
  3. Genie opens on the Home screen.

With your work email and a password:

  1. Enter your Work email and your Password.
  2. Click Sign in.

With your company account (when your company signs in to its computers with a company user name): open the Company account tab, enter your Username and your Company password, then click Sign in.

If your company uses two-step verification, Genie then asks for the code from your authenticator app. Lost your phone? Click Lost your phone? Use a recovery code.

The sign-in page

Your first time: accept the invitation

Your workspace admin usually invites you by email.

  1. Open the link in the invitation email. Genie shows You’ve been invited to join with the workspace name and your role.
  2. If you are new to Genie, fill in your name and a password, then click the join button, for example Join Contoso. If you already have an account, sign in and click Sign in and join. You can also use Sign in with Microsoft.
  3. Genie welcomes you, for example with You’ve joined Contoso, and lists the agents people use most there. Click Start with a question.

If you cannot sign in

  • Email or password is incorrect: check both. If you forgot your password, click Forgot password? and Genie emails you a reset link. If you sign in with Microsoft, change your password the usual company way instead.
  • Too many failed sign-in attempts: wait the few minutes Genie shows, then try again.
  • There is no Genie account for you yet (with Microsoft, the message reads No account exists for this email): you have not been invited yet. Ask your workspace admin for an invitation.
  • Your session has expired: sign in again. This is normal after some time away.

The Home screen

After you sign in, you land on the Home screen. It is where every new conversation starts.

  • The question line at the top, for example What are we working on, Lan?
  • The message box: type your question and press Enter. See Ask Genie.
  • Suggested questions below the message box, when your workspace has some. Click one to ask it.

The sidebar

The sidebar on the left takes you everywhere. What you see depends on your role and on what your company uses:

ItemWhat it is for
New chatBack to the Home screen to start a new conversation
SearchFind a past conversation or message (shortcut ⌘K on Mac, Ctrl+K on Windows)
AgentsThe assistants available in your workspace. See Agents
KnowledgeThe knowledge bases you can read. See Ask your documents
ToolboxShown to workspace admins only: the skills, tools and databases agents use
ArtifactsThe files Genie created for you. See Files and artifacts
Shared with meConversations colleagues shared with you. See Conversations
Shared spacesShown to workspace admins only: sharing agents and knowledge bases with other workspaces

Below these items is your conversation history, grouped by Today, Yesterday, Previous 7 days and so on, and the Recently deleted link. Your account menu is at the very bottom.

To make more room, click the panel icon at the top of the sidebar (Collapse sidebar), or press ⌘\ (Mac) or Ctrl+\ (Windows). On a phone, the sidebar opens from the menu button.

Switch workspace

A workspace is your company's (or your department's) space in Genie, with its own knowledge bases, agents and members. If you belong to several, for example Contoso and Contoso Việt Nam, switch between them:

  1. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
  2. Under Switch workspace, click the workspace you want. To find it in a long list, type in Search by name or workspace ID.
  3. Genie reloads and confirms, for example with You are now in Contoso Việt Nam.

Each row shows your role there. Departments inside a workspace are shown indented under it. Home workspace marks the workspace your account was created in; via followed by a name means you have access through a parent workspace.

Accept an invitation to another workspace

When someone invites you to another workspace, a bell with a number appears at the top right of the page (View pending invitations).

  1. Click the bell. My invitations lists each invitation with the workspace, your role and when it expires.
  2. Click Accept or Decline.

After you accept, the new workspace appears under Switch workspace.

Change the language, theme and text size

  1. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Settings.
  2. Open General.
  3. Choose:
    • Interface language: English or Tiếng Việt. Only the menus and buttons change; your documents and conversations are never translated.
    • Appearance: Light, Dark or Match system.
    • Font size: Small, Default or Large, for conversations and documents.

These choices apply to the browser you are using. The sign-in page also has a language switch (EN/VI) and a light/dark switch at the top.

Your profile

Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Profile. There you can:

  • change your Display name, the name colleagues see;
  • Change password, if you sign in with an email and a password;
  • set up Two-step verification, so a stolen password alone cannot open your account (when you sign in with Microsoft, your company account handles this);
  • turn Notification emails on or off;
  • under Your data, click Download my data to get a ZIP file with your profile, your conversations, your memory and the files you uploaded in chats;
  • read Privacy: what your admins can and cannot see.

To sign out, click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Sign out.

Good to know

  • Your conversations are private. Your admins cannot read them; they see numbers only, such as how many answers were rated. See Privacy.
  • You see what you are allowed to see. Genie only answers from the documents, data and agents you have access to. A colleague may get a different answer to the same question because they can read different documents. This is on purpose.
  • Missing a knowledge base, an agent or a menu item? Your role or your company's setup decides what appears. Ask your workspace admin if you think you should have access.
  • Your role is set by your workspace admin and shown next to each workspace under Switch workspace. A Viewer can chat and read knowledge; a Contributor can also create agents and knowledge bases; an Admin or Owner can also manage members, data sources and integrations.
  • Genie works on phones and tablets in the browser. On iPhone or Android you can add it to the home screen from the browser's share or install menu.
